Canberra Raiders fullback Sebastian Kris has been heavily criticised for a tackle on Kalyn Ponga after he was put on report by referee Adam Gee.

Kris' actions in the 53rd minute brought both sides together due to Ponga being tackled in the air from a bomb.

The Knights went on to make a big statement and move into ninth with a 28-6 victory.

Queensland Maroons great Corey Parker was highly critical of Kris' actions.

"This is a clumsy play," he said on Fox League.

"That is 100 per cent dangerous, the penalty was brought in to eliminate this ... it's careless, we can all see and Seb Kris would've saw himself out of his peripheral that KP was well up into the air."

The fullback's penalty added more misery to the Raiders day after a strong start from the Knights.

Ponga was first to go over in the sixth minute, and the momentum continued from there with Newcastle leading 20-0 at half-time thanks to tries from Greg Marzhew and Dominic Young.

Jordan Rapana's try in the 51st minute suggested a comeback could be on the cards but Newcastle held strong for a 28-6 win.

Ponga was also taken off the field in the second half for a head injury assessment, separate from the Kris tackle, but ultimately returned to the field.

Next week, the Knights will play the Dolphins on Saturday at Perth while the Raiders are up against the Tigers on Sunday.
