'I have complete trust in him': John Morris announced as incoming Wests Tigers assistant coach

South Sydney's drama around its coaching setup has taken another turn with assistant John Morris confirmed to be moving to the Wests Tigers at the end of the season.

The change had been rumoured for some time with the Tigers announcing the news on Wednesday.

It comes after Sam Burgess left the Rabbitohs immediately on Wednesday morning following reports of differences between him and Jason Demetriou.

Morris was also reportedly set to part ways with the club but instead will stick around for the Rabbitohs' finals push.

Throughout his playing career, Morris had three seasons with the Wests Tigers and will now join incoming head coach Benji Marshall on his staff with a four-year deal in place.

Marshall expressed his pleasure at having the former Tiger on board.

"We are really excited to welcome John and his family back to our club as an assistant coach," he said in a club statement.

"His experience, his character and his attention to detail are second to none.

"He is a very good person, a dedicated family man, and we share the same values.

"I have complete trust in him and know he'll do a great job for us."

Wests Tigers chief executive officer Justin Pascoe explained Morris' previous head coaching experience at the Sharks paved the way for his move.

"John was identified as someone who has been a head coach, knows what it takes to be a head coach, and how much hard work is required," he said.

"John was a thorough professional as a player and he's taken that same work ethic into his role as a coach.

"He will be a welcome addition to the coaching team we have for next season and beyond."
