'I've got a shotgun in my room': Cheeky Craig Bellamy's plan as the indestructible Tom Trbojevic looms

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has joked that he'll give one of his troops a shotgun to take onto the paddock for tomorrow night's clash with Manly, as the Storm look to nullify the otherworldly form of Tom Trbojevic.

The Manly fullback has been in scintillating touch since returning to the paddock in the sixth round, piling up 19 try assists (second in the league) and 18 tries (third equal).

The form of Trbojevic, which has drawn widespread comparisons to the superhuman footy displayed by Jarryd Hayne in 2009 and Ben Barba in 2012, has been the driving force behind the Sea Eagles' blistering resurgence.

Manly slumped to their worst-ever start to a season in their 74-year history over the opening four rounds, but they are now sitting sixth and threatening to do serious damage in the finals.

The most in-form player in the competition is now set to become Melbourne's problem, as the Storm square off with the Sea Eagles in Brisbane tomorrow night.

"I've got a shotgun in my room, so I'm going to get one of the guys to take that out tomorrow night," Bellamy joked to reporters.

"But no, I'm not quite sure how you would describe his form at the moment. But his game last week (against Cronulla) was off the planet, really.

"You rely on a player like that - any team does, really - but what he's been doing has been quite remarkable."

Trbojevic finished last week's 40-22 win over the Sharks with his third hat-trick of the season, as well as three try assists, three line-breaks, four line-break assists, 15 tackle busts and 227 metres.

The NSW State of Origin centre has shot into red-hot favouritism for his maiden Dally M Medal - and that's despite the fact a hamstring injury saw him miss the first five rounds of the season.

"We're not going to throw our hands up in the air and say, 'I hope he doesn't play too good tomorrow'," Bellamy said.

"We've obviously got a plan on how we might be able to blunt a bit of his effectiveness.

"We're not going to shut him down completely for the whole game, but there's a couple things we think we can do and a couple of mentalities about us being on our game in certain situations and being really aware of where he is and what he does in those situations."
