New Titan Peats is a winner: McQueen

Gold Coast back-rower Chris McQueen says new arrival Nathan Peats is one of the most competitive teammates he's ever had.

Peats watched from the sidelines on Monday night as the Titans snapped a five-game losing run with an impressive 26-6 NRL win over Sydney Roosters at CBUS Super Stadium.

McQueen, who ended a year-long try drought with a second-half four-pointer against the Roosters, played alongside Peats at South Sydney.

He says the Titans have found themselves a winner in the 25-year-old hooker.

"He's a great bloke. I got along really well with him at Souths," McQueen said.

"He's probably one of the most competitive players I've played with. Hates losing, which is great, exactly the sort of player we need here.

"He's still young ... still got a lot of footy in front of him. To pick up someone like that, I think that's a really good buy."

While Peats will be available for selection for Sunday's trip to Penrith, Titans coach Neil Henry seemed far from locked in to handing the former Parramatta rake the No.9 jersey.

Veteran Nathan Friend was one of the Titans' best against the Roosters and Henry said Peats may feature as more of a utility player against the Panthers.

"We'll find a place for Nathan in the team, he does have a utility value as well," Henry said.

"We'll have a look at it but he's certainly too good a player not to have in the 17."
