Magic man Milford scores freakish try

Broncos entertainer Anthony Milford tuned circus master to score a freakishly athletic try during Brisbane's shut-out victory over St George Illawarra on Thursday night.

With the home side leading 14-0 late in the match and attacking the Dragons line, the No.6 called halves partner Ben Hunt to slide through a grubber kick into the in-goal area.

And then in the blink of an eye, Milford flew through the defensive line, leapt in the air and reeled in the ball before planting it just centimetres inside the dead ball line.

The play was hailed by Channel Nine commentators Ray Hadley and Peter Sterling and underlined why some critics want Australian coach Mal Meninga to hand him a Kangaroos jersey for the upcoming Anzac Test against New Zealand.

Calling the play as Milford reached the ball, Hadley said: "He got it down before the dead ball line. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.

"What a try."

Sterling was full of praise for the teamwork between Milford and Hunt.

"Great teamwork and great vision from Ben Hunt to see what his five-eight wanted," he said.

The try came after a mistake-riddled effort from the Dragons, who continued their poor attacking run with the side kept scoreless for the second week running following their 36-0 loss to the Cowboys in round five.

St George Illawarra blew several gilt-edged chances with poor execution, while their attack looked clunky for much of the match.
