McGuire doesn't want Thaiday to change

Brisbane lock Josh McGuire has backed Sam Thaiday's aggressive style after the NRL club's announcement that it will fight the back-rower's contrary conduct charge.

Thaiday was hit with a grade-one offence for squeezing the injured thumb of Storm prop Jesse Bromwich in Brisbane's last-round 14-12 loss in Melbourne.

Thaiday faces a maximum $2100 fine.

When quizzed on Monday about the charge, McGuire said he didn't want Thaiday to change a thing about his game.

"I like the way Sammy plays," McGuire said.

"I have played with him since I debuted (in 2009) and I wouldn't change him in any way.

"I am just glad he is on my team."

McGuire said every player carrying an injury into a match was at risk of copping contact to the affected area.

"It is a contact sport," he said.

"Everyone on the field is carrying something, some sort of injury.

"He (Thaiday) is probably just a bit unlucky."

For the record, McGuire - who has a cataract in his left eye - claimed he didn't witness the Thaiday incident.

"Mate, I play with one eye. I didn't see it," he said.

Thaiday is free to play in Friday night's clash with Canberra at Suncorp Stadium.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday evening.
