The Queensland Maroons have received some positive news with winger Xavier Coates expected to play despite injuring his shoulder during training.

19-year-old Coates was helped off the field and forced to leave training on Sunday after landing on his shoulder awkwardly.

Queensland Rugby League on Monday released a statement confirming the 194cm high-flyer underwent scans which confirmed he had suffered a low-grade sprain but is still expected to be available for Wednesday's series opener with the Blues.
