Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are set to investigate an incident involving promising Manly hooker Manase Fainu.

In the incident in Sydney's west last Friday night, a patron was stabbed at a church function.

Wide World of Sports understands that the stabbing occurred during a scuffle that involved a large group of the attendees at the function.

Fainu was one of the attendees caught in the scuffle.

Wide World of Sports is not suggesting Fainu had any criminal involvement in the incident.

Fainu's legal representative, high-profile criminal solicitor Elias Tabchouri, is attempting to provide the player's version of events to the police.

"We have sought to meet with police and anticipate doing so in the next few days," Tabchouri said.

"I am limited in what I can say until I am made aware of the extent of the allegations.

"We reserve our right to comment until then."

Fainu's manager Mario Tartak has made Manly and the Integrity Unit aware of the incident.
