Ben Hunt has been cleared of a serious injury after the stand-in hooker sent a scare through the Brisbane camp when he suffered an arm complaint at training on Tuesday.

Hunt left training in distress clutching his forearm after a wrestling drill went awry ahead of Friday night's Suncorp Stadium clash with his future club St George Illawarra.

However, Brisbane said they expected to name Hunt on Tuesday for their home clash against the Dragons after positive scan results.

"Ben was sent for precautionary scans this morning but there was no evidence of any fracture," Broncos high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans.

"We will look after him over the next couple of days and expect he will be right to play against the Dragons on Friday night."

Brisbane name their team at 4pm on Tuesday.

Hunt's teammate Corey Oates earlier played down the training mishap.

"I am pretty sure he is all good. They just take precautions around here," he said.

"It didn't look it was too serious. Looked like a cork which do hurt a fair bit."

Hunt is the Dragons' $6 million man next year but will line up against his future club at Suncorp Stadium on the bench as back-up hooker.

Brisbane have cruised into the top two starting Sam Thaiday at No.9 before replacing him with Hunt after 20 minutes following regular rake Andrew McCullough's season-ending knee injury three weeks ago.

The Dragons signed Hunt on a lucrative five year deal from 2018 as their star halfback.

Hunt has been relegated to back up No.9 by Kodi Nikorima who has slotted effortlessly into the halves with Anthony Milford.

Nikorima has won all nine games he has played as Brisbane halfback including eight alongside Milford.

Meanwhile, Broncos lock Josh McGuire returned to training after missing Monday's session due to illness.
