Henry gives Titans shot at NRL redemption

Wielding the axe was never an option for besieged Gold Coast Titans coach Neil Henry after their record 54-0 last round loss to Brisbane.

Probably because the injury-hit NRL squad doesn't have any other players available.

But Henry believed it was important to give his embattled players a chance at redemption in Saturday's Kogarah clash with St George Illawarra.

Halfback Ash Taylor (knee) is the latest injury worry for Henry ahead of the match with a Dragons team desperate to stay in touch with the top eight.

Asked why he didn't make wholesale changes after last week, Henry said: "We are limited in what we can do - that is the squad.

"And I feel they needed an opportunity to redeem themselves."

There is speculation Henry is a dead man walking after the Titans missed the finals for another year, with Melbourne's Craig Bellamy linked to the club.

But Henry believes the players have his back.

"I have talked to my senior players and we are all accountable - we are all in the same boat," he said.

"Things fall with the head coach, that is the nature of the game, and I accept that.

"You roll with the good times and try to hang in during the tough times.

"It's been a tough year but that shouldn't turn into a performance like last weekend."

Henry said barnstorming centre Konrad Hurrell and veteran backrower Kevin Proctor were expected to return next round from hamstring injuries.
