Hayne 'tantalizing', say US media

Jarryd Hayne has “a tantalizing blend of size and athleticism” according to US media who have pounced on the rugby league star’s shock decision to pursue a career in the NFL.

Hayne’s announcement was reported widely in the US, where he recently visited and met with officials at Seattle Seahawks.

The 26-year-old, however, has not signed a contract with any franchise and will travel to America as a free agent.

Bleacher Report columnist Tim Keeney agreed with the dual Dally M medallist, who believes his best chance of making it in American football lies in an offensive position.

“In terms of a future position, the 6'2" (188cm), 220-pounder (100kg) would make the most sense as a running back, but if he in fact makes a team, his initial role would likely be limited to special teams,” Keeney wrote.

Keeney went onto describe rugby players as being as “hard as nails” and suggested Hayne’s move compared unfavourably to Michael Jordan’s infamous switch to baseball in 1993.

“This isn't quite Michael Jordan heading over to baseball, but it will be undeniably intriguing to watch the Australian superstar attempt such a drastic change.”

Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush said Hayne was capable of playing NFL during a promotional tour to Australia during this year’s State of Origin series.

"He actually looks like an NFL running back. Looks like he could come play with us tomorrow," Bush said when shown video of Hayne.

"He's fast, strong and wow. Look at that hit. That's an NFL football hit. I like this guy."
