Furnance-like heat favours Cowboys: Walters

Powered by

Brisbane Broncos assistant Kevin Walters has admitted Sydney's shock heatwave will favour the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL grand final.

The mercury tipped 34°C in the western suburbs on Sunday and temperatures are not expected to drop ahead of the 7.25pm (AEDT) kick-off.

An expected cool change is forecast for midnight.

Walters is hoping the forecast is wrong, warning the oppressive conditions could have an adverse effect on the players.

"(The weather) will obviously play a part," Walters told Triple M.

"They (the Cowboys) are probably a bit more used to that kind of heat.

"The humidity is something they know better. So that could have an impact."
