Extra-time call for women's Origin

Jillaroos skipper Ruan Sims wants extra-time introduced to Women's Interstate Challenge rugby league matches after NSW were denied an historic win over Queensland.

The Maroons women hope to extend a 17-year unbroken run against Sims' NSW on the Gold Coast on Saturday in their annual clash for the Nellie Doherty Cup.

The Blues came agonisingly close to snapping Queensland's hold on the Interstate Challenge last year, forcing a 4-4 draw.

Sims has called for the series to adopt extra-time golden point to avoid a repeat of last year's frustration.

"It was bittersweet. A draw is a bit of a non-event after 80 minutes of bruising football," Sims told AAP.

"It would have been good to play golden point to get a result."

The Interstate Challenge will be held ahead of Gold Coast Titans' NRL clash with Parramatta.

Sims - sister of NRL players Tariq and Korbin and England-based Ashton - said ultimately the Interstate Challenge would become a three-game series like the men's State of Origin.

The dual international hoped one day to see women's interstate clashes as Origin curtain-raisers.

"That would be the ultimate goal," she said.

"I know a lot of other people share that vision."

Sims' NSW squad boasting nine Jillaroos have been in camp since Wednesday plotting an end to Queensland's dominance.

"We don't dwell on it," Sims said of the Maroons' 17-year unbeaten run.

Interstate Challenge games are tough but they may pale in comparison to Sims' childhood backyard battles with her giant brothers.

"It was competitive," she laughed.
