St George Illawarra turned on the razzle dazzle to score a brilliant 80m try during their Monday night football clash with the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

Trailing 18-8 in the 72nd minute, the Dragons spread the ball from inside their 20m zone with a sweeping play that began with Gareth Widdop and Benji Marshall.

The ball was sent out to the right wing where Dylan Farrell released centre Euan Aitken, who hared down the touchline.

With the defence closing in Aitkin pushed the ball inside to Marshall, who then passed on to Widdop to complete the movement for a super try.

With the conversion, the try took the Dragons to trail 18-14 and set up a grandstand finish.

But the Roosters managed to hold on and close out the match with hooker Jake Friend icing the win with a field goal on the bell to make it 19-14.
