'Obvious' forward pass mars spectacular Raiders try against Parramatta

The Raiders' Elliott Whitehead scored a magical try in Canberra's 25-24 loss to the Parramatta Eels, but the highlight was marred by an apparent forward pass.

In the first half, Canberra's Jarrod Croker threw a quick pass to his left to Nick Cotric which seemed to float forward. But the Raiders played to the whistle - which was not blown - and Cotric put in a deft kick back inside at full speed.

Jack Wighton caught the ball on the full and immediately passed it wide again to Whitehead who slid over the try-line, in what was a spectacular run of play.

Even though the try showcased some spectacular skills by Cotric and Wighton, the forward pass was hard for commentators to ignore.

"That one was quite obvious," league legend Greg Alexander said on Fox Sports.

"That's as forward as you ever want it to be, and the Raiders take advantage of it.

"What's the touchie doing? That's a deliberate forward pass!" Steve Roach ranted.

The Bunker was called upon to see if Wighton was onside to catch Cotric's kick, but as a rule forward passes cannot be reviewed by video referees.

Because Wighton was onside, the try stood.
