Burgess signing clouds Walker's future

Sam Burgess' return to the NRL has put the spotlight on the future of several other players at the club, including Dylan Walker and Chris McQueen.

Souths' investigation into the prescription drug overdose of Walker and Aaron Gray is continuing after the duo fronted the club's board on Wednesday.'

The Rabbitohs let go of Issac Luke and Glenn Stewart at the end of last season, but Burgess' return will put pressure on their salary cap.

Souths boss John Lee couldn't guarantee Walker's future at the club after announcing Burgess' signing for three-years on Friday.

"Like 15 other clubs in the NRL, it is important with your roster that you look at it day-in-day-out, week-in-week out and we purposely freed up some of our cap space with Issac going and Glenn Stewart going to Super League at the end of the year," Lee told AAP.

"It is important with your roster that you keep it fresh and you keep if fluid.

"If ultimately that will mean there is some movement well that is no different to how it has been the last few months, players have come and players have gone and in the fullness of time that will happen with every club."

Walker has been linked to a move to Manly under new coach Trent Barrett.

Lee said the investigation into Walker and Gray might not be concluded for another month.

"Procedural fairness is important in this matter," he said.

"Yes we have had an issue with player behaviour, we are dealing with that, but that is a separate issue from us signing Sam Burgess."
