Brisbane's Boyd cleared for NRL opener

Brisbane captain Darius Boyd has been cleared to play the NRL season opener after overcoming another hamstring drama.

The Broncos fullback is eyeing off a pre-season trial after bouncing back from a hamstring strain suffered two weeks ago.

Boyd missed the majority of Brisbane's 2017 NRL finals campaign and the Rugby League World Cup after tearing the same hamstring.

Broncos high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans said Boyd was on track to be fit for a pre-season trial.

"We had a little setback a couple of weeks ago but he is flying now and ready to go," he told the Broncos' website.

"We just have to build up his confidence now.

"I have worked with Darius for a long time and he does everything he needs to do."

Brisbane play trials against Queensland Cup side Central Capras at Theodore on February 10 and the Gold Coast Titans a week later in Toowoomba before a February 24 clash with PNG Hunters in Port Moresby.

The Broncos open their NRL season against St George Illawarra on March 8.
