Aussie coach Smith stays at Warrington

Former England boss Tony Smith, Super League's longest-serving coach, has signed a new deal that will keep him at Warrington until the end of 2018.

The 49-year-old Australian, who has been coaching in Super League since 2000, was out of contract with the current Super League leaders at the end of the season but has signed a two-year extension, the Wolves have announced.

Smith, who was in charge of Great Britain and then England from 2006-09, joined Warrington from Leeds seven years ago and led them to three Challenge Cup final victories in his first four years, two grand final runners-up appearances and the League Leaders shield.

They failed to finish in the top four in 2015 but go into Thursday's clash with Wigan in pole position with nine wins from their first 12 matches of 2016.
