Super Bowl classic 'ruined' by 'bad call' as Chiefs beat Eagles in final-minute thriller

Filthy fans are claiming Super Bowl LVII was "ruined" by a controversial and decisive call in the final minute.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles were locked at 35-35 as the clock counted down, until the Eagles were penalised for a hold.

The Chiefs duly kicked the ensuing field-goal with eight seconds left to win the championship game 38-35.

It had been a thrilling Super Bowl leading up to that frantic ending, highlighted by a brave performance from injured MVP Patrick Mahomes and his opposing quarterback Jalen Hurts.

It wasn't until 12 minutes remaining in the last quarter when Kansas City hit the lead for the first time, thanks to a Kadarius Toney touchdown.

Minutes later it was a bad punt from Aussie Arryn Siposs that led to the longest return in Super Bowl history, and ultimately led to another Chiefs touchdown to extend their lead.

But it was Hurts who took matters into his own hands once again, scoring his third rushing touchdown to level the game at 35-35 with five minutes remaining.

Hurts' three rushing touchdowns broke a Super Bowl record, and he set another for the most rushing yards by a quarterback.

It was then Mahomes - the two-time league MVP, including this season - who broke away on a dodgy ankle to make a crucial run to gain field position with a minute remaining in the decider.

Referees then flagged James Bradberry for holding Juju Smith-Schuster, causing uproar and ultimately deciding the result, which the Harrison Butker field goal made sure of.

Bradberry later admitted he had grabbed his opponent illegally, but was hopeful officials would opt not to penalise him.

Mahomes was crowned Super Bowl MVP for a second time.

The superstar quarterback had limped off the field late in the first half and many speculated he may not make it back at all, let alone engineer the winning play.

"It was heart," Mahomes said.

"We didn't play our best, didn't play for each other as much as we want to. A lot of guys playing uncharacteristic.

"We were able to regroup at half time and figure it out. In the second half, we were flying around."

He also spoke on the podium after being named MVP, and was asked about his dodgy ankle.

"I told you all this week, nothing would take me off," he said.

"We challenged each other, shout out to my teammates, Super Bowl champs, baby, let's go."

Aussie players Siposs and Jordan Mailata missed the chance to bring a Super Bowl trophy Down Under.
