‘Dumb arse’ NFL coach finds lighter side of Aussie disaster
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is starting to see the lighter side of his team’s failed trip to Australia for their NFL season opener.
McVay was critical of the trip last week after his side were smashed by the San Francisco 49ers at the MCG, saying he never wanted to play in Australia again.

Those comments saw McVay cop plenty of backlash online, especially given the Rams have an official partnership with the country dating back years, but only arrived in Melbourne the day before the game in front of 100,000 fans.
However, the 40-year-old was in a far more jovial mood after the Rams bounced back to form with a dominant 28-6 win over the New York Giants.
Speaking to media on Tuesday (AEST), a pumped-up McVay was asked what the difference was between the MCG failure and the win over the Giants.
“Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn and sometimes you have a dumb arse coach that makes travel plans that puts you in bad spot,” he said.
McVay then slammed his fist on the desk, smirked and walked out of the room.
His latest nod to the disappointing yet historic tour comes as Rams president Kevin Demoff reiterated the franchise’s commitment to Australia.
“I think you’re going to hear his frustration, which is frustration about the way we played, not frustration about international games, not frustration about Australia,” Demoff told The Sporting Tribune.
“I think much was made of the storyline of the team not being there, which is very different than the organisation not being there. We missed an opportunity to play our best, to be engaged that week, and that’s something that we’ll grapple with.
“There’s a great synergy with Australia and the Rams. We’ve seen that over the course of time ... I think it’s unfair to take Sean’s comments and extrapolate them beyond what happened in those 60 minutes.”
The 49ers also showed no ill-effects from their travel to Australia, thrashing Miami 35-13 on Monday morning.
