The Athletic's Brendan Marks has revealed the deal with UNC will be worth an estimated $47 million AUD over the course of three years.
Belichick is one of the greatest minds and most respected figures in American football and was a three-time NFL Coach of the Year award winner.
The coach also won two Super Bowls as an assistant with the New York Giants.
His father, Steve Belichick, served as an assistant coach with the Tar Heels in the 1950s.
