'Little bit of kick for the old dogs': At 33, newly crowned Supercars champion defies 'crazy' generational shift
Chaz Mostert admitted that before winning the Supercars Championship in Adelaide, he doubted he would ever lift the trophy after waiting 13 years for glory.
A beloved personality in the paddock, Mostert is one of the oldest on the grid at 33 years old and spoke to Nine's Today about the title victory and what it meant for his team and family.
"It's been a bit of a wave of a night for not only myself, my family, our whole team and all our supporters as well…still can't quite process it yet," he said.

"I think this is my 13th year in Supercars and after so many years, you start to doubt it's ever [going to] happen so it's a bit of a pinch myself moment."

Mostert clinched the championship over rival Broc Feeney, who was emotional after losing out due to being tagged by Ryan Wood on the opening lap.
The 23-year-old was on a charge for his first championship title after posting a record-breaking 19 pole positions and 13 wins in 2025, until being taken out in the final race.

"I haven't seen Broc yet, you know it really shows what our sport's all about, how much it all means to all of us," Mostert said on his Triple Eight competitor.
"But touching on Broc, he's had an amazing year, the speed he's shown all year, the results he's got for his team, obviously the format changed this year to really set us up like an NRL and AFL grand final.
"No doubt he's got such a big future ahead of him.
"I know he's probably hurting right now but I've absolutely been honoured versing him all year and trying to chase him in this grand final series.
"His time is definitely coming."
It's been a long and winding road for Mostert. A decade ago he was involved in a horror crash in Bathurst that left him with a shattered leg and fractured wrist.
But the Munruben-born driver was able to make his dreams come true and "wouldn't change anything" about his journey there.
"Plenty of ups and downs, the lows, crashing in 2015, to now the highs, the highest standing in front of you guys this morning, winning the championship, so I absolutely love this sport," Mostert added.

"I wouldn't change one thing in the past...the fans have always just got me through it, through the lows and just really honoured to be a Supercars driver and have my dream come true.
"Overall, I feel so much reflecting to do, so many years trying and now to be able to actually have my name on this amazing trophy with so many greats of our sport is so cool.

"I think I'm second oldest in the [category] next year which is crazy, apparently our sport is just hiring all these young guys, so it's pretty good for a little bit of kick for the old dogs yet."
Next year, there will be five rookies on the Supercars grid, with Mostert and WAU joining Toyota in their 2026 debut with the No.1 on his Supra.
Mostert debuted for WAU around the streets of Adelaide in 2020 and fittingly, that was where he became the 28th driver in the category to win the Supercars championship.
He is also the third consecutive driver to win a maiden title after Will Brown in 2024 and Brodie Kostecki in 2023.
