Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo remains stuck behind a car that is quicker than his Red Bull – and it's no laughing matter.

The three-time F1 race winner was forced to take a back seat in his Red Bull RB7 – a sister to Sebastian Vettel's 2011 championship winning car – when he took on Craig Glassby's Top Alcohol Funny Car at the Perth Speed Fest.

The local hero clocked an impressive 10.818 second standing quarter mile but was no match for his opponent, as Glassby cruised to victory with a time of 9.045 seconds.

The defeat was a reminder of Ricciardo's 2015 F1 season in which he was hampered by a struggling Renault engine and was eventually left in the dust of duelling Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

However, the 26-year-old did manage to win a few races at the tyre-burning event at the Perth Motorplex, beating a Lamborghini sports car and Nick Percat's Holden V8 Supercar.
