Middle distance runner loses shoe during race

Liam Purdy from America University proved nothing was going to get in his way during his 800m run at the Patriots League indoor event – even a lost shoe.

Purdy was halfway through the race when he unexpectedly lost his shoe when a trailing runner stepped on his heel.

Even though Purdy’s barefoot became exposed the middle distance runner didn’t panic.

The University student kept his pace with the leading group and then made his move down the back straight and sprinted aggressively to finish first.

Purdy told the Washington Post that he thought his exposed foot hadn’t been damaged by the track.

After Purdy finished the race he realised his foot didn’t come out of the race unscathed.

Ouch.
