Mountain-man Maynard continues to defy the odds

Next to the word inspiration in the dictionary they should put in a photo of Kyle Maynard.

Nike certainly has.

Mountaineer Maynard, who was born with a rare condition known as congenital amputation, has become the latest ambassador for the internationally recognised sportswear company.

The condition, which prevents the development of foetal limbs, hasn't stopped Maynard – in fact the 30-year-old has gone on to conquer some of the world's most challenging peaks.

After taking part, and succeeding in a range of sports as a child, Maynard turned to climbing mountains.

Using specially designed prosthetic limbs, Maynard showed he has all the skills and determination to tackle the hardest of mountains, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in 2012.

So Nike, who have handed money to a host of questionable characters in the past, have literally jumped on Maynard's back and together, who know how far they will climb?

Obviously the people at Nike and Maynard like a bit of a laugh as well.
