Paul the octopus may have correctly predicted Germany’s results at the 2010 World Cup, but he’s still been replaced as sport’s preeminent oracle by a computer game.

Last week, a simulation of Super Bowl XLIX on American football video game Madden incredibly predicted a 28-24 victory to New England over Seattle.

A result that came true in the NFL decider on Monday.

Remarkably, it also had Patriots quarterback Tom Brady winning his third Super Bowl MVP after throwing four touchdowns and leading his team back from a record 10-point final quarter deficit.

The simulation also correctly predicted that New England receiver Julian Edelman scoring the game-winning touchdown in the final quarter.

However, it didn’t predict Seattle’s ill-fated pass play with 20 seconds left at second-and-goal or Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler’s incredible match-winning interception - as if any man or machine could.
