Kookaburras progress to hockey final

Defending champions Australia have beaten Germany 3-0 to progress to the Hockey World League Final decider against world No.1 Argentina.

Second-half goals from Dylan Wotherspoon, Jeremy Hayward and Tom Wickham sealed the win for the Kookaburras in India.

Australia's best chance in the goalless opening half fell to Eddie Ockenden, who forced a good save from Tobias Walter in the 35th minute.

Kookaburras goalkeeper Tyler Lovell excelled to keep the scores level at the break before the Aussies took control of proceedings.

Daniel Beale found Wotherspoon, who produced an expert back stick finish to give the Kookaburras the lead on 42 minutes.

Australia doubled their lead six minutes later when 100-gamer Jeremy Hayward scored with a deflected drag flick from a penalty corner.

World No.5 Germany attempted to fight back but the game was secured when Aran Zalewski broke forward and found Tom Wickham to convert from point blank range in the 60th minute.

Australia, the reigning World League champions, will face Argentina in the final on Sunday (Monday 1am AEDT), in a battle of the top two ranked nations.
