14-year-old Jack Regenye pulls off epic catch at Junior League World Series

The Ashes might be three months away, but regardless of what Steve Smith and co might do over the summer, we can already close the book as far as catch of the year is concerned.

14-year-old Pennsylvania Jack Regenye was at centre field for Kennett Square, in their Junior League World Series match against Chinese Taipei, when he pulled off a screamer.

“C’mon now, unreal, wow,” said the commentator.

“Folks, this is as good as you will see, at any level of baseball,” was the verdict of another.

“Full extension, and the athleticism as he dives over the fence, what a play.”

The catch was controversial, however, with the umpires originally ruling it out, before reversing the call and awarding a home run after the Chinese Taipei manager argued the point.

After further discussion between the umpires, the call was reversed a second time and the original decision of out was reinstated.

In the overall scheme of things it was academic, as Chinese Taipei went on to win 12-1.

Still, mark down the name Jack Regenye. It’s one you may hear again in future.
