$6m Group 1 winning horse ruled out of major race after injury caused by freakish stingray incident

Group 1 winning racehorse Lady Of Camelot has been ruled out of Saturday's Doomben 10,000 race after an injury caused by a stingray.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's star sprinter was out for a beach swim on Tuesday morning when she suffered wounds to the near foreleg.

She was treated by the stable's veterinarian after the incident.

The four-year-old will now miss Brisbane's premier $1.5 million sprint race on Saturday afternoon, with reports from Racenet indicating she could be ruled out of the entire winter carnival pending further examinations.

Lady Of Camelot is one of the country's most consistent short-distance runners, having won twice - including the Golden Slipper two years ago - and placed eight times in her 14 career starts, collecting $6 million in prize money for connections.

However, the mare missed a year of action after finishing third in last year's G1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill over 1500 metres.

Waterhouse and Bott have been angling for a Royal Ascot tilt later this year, but the latest injury setback could derail those plans.

In her absence, Jimmysstar looks set to start as favourite in the Doomben 10,000 with the likes of Private Eye and Grafterburners also in the mix.

Past winners of the race include Bella Nipotina, Giga Kick, Redzel and Apache Cat.
