Jockey saves rival from horror fall

Jockeys are the fiercest of rivals but also share an amazing kinship.

And Irish rider Danny Mullins has shown the very best or sportsmanship after miraculously saving rival rider Jody McGarvey from a certain fall during a steeplechase race in Ireland.

Battling it out in the Roscommon On-Course Vets Handicap Chase, Mullins showed amazing vision and skill to spot McGarvey in trouble after he slipped from his saddle following a fence jump.

McGarvey struck his face on mount Old Supporter after landing heavily and appeared to have been momentarily knocked out as he headed for a dangerous fall.

But just as he looked certain to slip to the ground, Mullins swooped from beside, grabbed him by the silks and hauled him back into the saddle.

Both jockeys then pulled up without completing the race, but were simply overjoyed to have avoided what would have been a horror fall.

McGarvey later took to Twitter to post a photo of the pair arm in arm, with the grateful jockey giving the thumbs up and delaring: "I'm alive."

Mullins' quick-thinking action was hailed by the Irish media as a tremendous act of sportsmanship.

But more than anything it was a deed worthy of the Sport of Kings.
