Hayne fined after being tackled by punter

Jarryd Hayne has revealed that he was fined by his 49ers teammates after being tackled by a Cowboys punter.

The former Eels captain starred in San Francisco’s 23-6 pre-season win over Dallas but the end of his 34-yard punt return was the source of mirth in the 49ers’ locker room.

With the ‘9ers up 3-0 in the opening quarter, Hayne fielded the ball, stepped one Dallas gunner before surging past several more Cowboys in a powerful run.

Hayne was finally stopped when punter Chris Jones managed to cling onto the former NRL star’s jersey.

“As soon as I came off, the boys were into me,” an amused Hayne said in his post-match media conference.

“I had to pay a fine and whatnot.”

“I actually saw the replay and he grabbed my jersey so they’ve got to tighten the jersey and I’ll be sweet, I think.”
