Gymnast suffers nasty ankle dislocation

When it comes to gymnastics it's all about the landing, whether it's chasing Olympic gold or simply trying to nail a somersault.

And a US gymnast has learned the hard way what happens when you get your landing wrong after suffering a nasty ankle dislocation while practicing a tumbling move.

The young gymnast was simulating a floor routine move, using a trampoline, when he spun in the air and landed heavily on his right ankle.

Graphic footage of the incident shows the teen's ankle buckle under his weight in an eye-watering moment - captured all too well in slow motion.

The gymnast can be heard grimacing in agony while his teammates visibly recoil in sympathy.

And while the footage is certainly not for the squeamish, it underlines just how easily it can all go pear-shaped in the gym.
