The Masters 2026 AS IT HAPPENED: Rory McIlroy earns second-straight green jacket in emotional scenes

An incredible moment for Rory McIlroy, who joins rarified air with a second-straight green jacket after some nervous moments in the final round.

Rory McIlroy is soaking it all in as he celebrates a second-straight Masters title.

"I can't believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket and now I get two in a row," he said while sitting with Fred Ridley and Jim Nantz in Butler Cabin.

"I think all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has started to pay off. It was a tough weekend ... just so happy to hang in there and get the job done."

McIlroy had his parents in attendance at Augusta National to watch another crowning moment in what has been a tremendous career, while the fans at his home course of Hollywood Golf Club in Northern Ireland cheered on from afar.

"Incredible - it's the second major win my mum's been at," he said.

"There was a piece of them that didn't want to come this year, because they thought 'we didn't come last year and maybe that was the reason [I won' ... but I'm so glad they got to experience this today and we're all gonna have a great time tonight.

"I was a little kid with a dream and the support that I have from my family, my friends and everyone back home - some people probably thought it was outlandish to dream of the things I wanted to do, but I had amazing support and I can't thank them all enough.

He then gets presented his green jacket by Augusta National chairman Ridley.

Usually, the winner gets presented the jacket by last year's winner - but of course, McIlroy can't do it for himself so Ridley stepped in.

The only other back-to-back winners are Jack Nicklaus (1965–1966), Nick Faldo (1989–1990) and Tiger Woods (2001-2002).

Rory McIlroy's tee shot from the 18th hole goes into the trees and he'll need to fight his way out of a precarious situation now.

"This could be extremely dangerous," Jim Nantz said on commentary.

Justin Rose ends his tournament with par to end his final round.

After taking a two-shot lead at one stage, Rose dropped back to -10 in a disappointing back-nine and finished tied for third alongside a few others.

"What it could have been ... he's gonna have another high finish, but disappointment I'm sure is going to be felt," Jim Nantz said on commentary.

Rory McIlroy nearly chips it straight in for a birdie on the 17th hole but narrowly misses, so he's forced to settle for par and keeps the two-shot buffer.

Cameron Young's chances of winning are all-but slammed shut with a par as well.

After a wayward drive, Rory McIlroy gets his way back onto the green with a brilliant shot and makes par on the 16th hole.

McIlroy is just two holes away from going back-to-back at Augusta National.
