'I don't know what he was expecting': Rory McIlroy's perfect reply to Bryson DeChambeau's lingering Masters whinge
Rory McIlroy has put to bed rumours of a feud with Bryson DeChambeau that stemmed from their final-round pairing at The Masters last month.
Less than a year after McIlroy's meltdown in the final round gifted DeChambeau victory at the US Open, it was the Irishman who managed to hold his nerve at Augusta to win while DeChambeau faded to finish in a tie for fifth.
After the round, DeChambeau complained McIlroy "didn't talk to me once all day" as McIlroy ended a decade-long major drought to seal a career grand slam.

But speaking to media ahead this weekend's PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, McIlroy said that shouldn't have come as a surprise to the LIV Golf star.

"I don't know what he was expecting ... we're trying to win the Masters. I'm not going to be his best mate out there," he said.
"Everyone approaches the game in different ways. I was focused on myself and what I needed to do and that's really all that it was.
"It wasn't anything against him, that's just what I felt I needed to do to try and get the best out of myself on that day."
Even the most hardened golf fan was brought to tears when McIlroy collapsed to his knees and sobbed after sinking the winning putt.
Ahead of the year's second major, McIlroy said he still hoped to create a few more career highlights before calling time on his career, he admitted that moment could prove to be the pinnacle of his career.
"Everyone needs to have goals and dreams and I've been able to do something that I dreamed of for a long time," he said.
"I'm still going to set myself goals, I'm still going to try to achieve certain things but I sit here knowing that very well could be the highlight of my career.
"That's a very cool thing. I still want to create a lot of other highlights and high points but I'm not sure if any other win will live up to what happened a few weeks ago."
McIlroy, a two-time winner of the PGA Championship, will play his first two rounds with world No.1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Xander Schauffele.
