‘I hope they can’: Scott pushes world’s best to play Aussie tournament
Former world number one Adam Scott has been confirmed to play in the Australian Open, revealing that he is actively “encouraging” elite PGA Tour names to join him Down Under.
Set to take place at Victoria’s Kingston Heath Golf Club this December, the Aussie golf star joins a stacked field that already includes career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy and LIV Golfer Cameron Smith.

Scott hinted at the possibility of bringing even more high-profile names to the blockbuster tournament, hoping to build on the momentum of last year’s event, which made headlines for its massive crowds at Royal Melbourne.
“If a couple guys came, I think that would be fantastic,” Scott said.
“That would strengthen the field. I mean, we don’t need 50 guys coming down to make it a success, but I hope a couple can.
“I know a bunch of the guys on the - a few of the International Team Presidents Cup players are keen to, and I know Geoff will be having a word with them as well.
“I’m encouraging everyone to come. I hope they can. They’ll have a great time.”
Scott arrives at the tournament having already etched himself into the history books earlier in 2026, playing in 100 consecutive majors, a marker only one other golfer has achieved, Jack Nicklaus.
“I’ve always loved playing the Australian Open,” Scott said of the announcement.
“It has so much incredible history and is a tournament every Australian golfer holds in such high regard. It’s a title we all want to win.
“Kingston Heath is a special place and will be an amazing challenge...so it’ll be really exciting to see how some of the world’s best take it on.
“The legacy of this tournament is something we’re all very proud of, and we’re looking forward to seeing it continue to grow.”
This momentum surrounding the Australian Open also extends to the Australian PGA Championship, Scott explaining that he has been fielding a “lot of interest” from international players looking for a spot to compete during the Australian double-header.
Held at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from November 26-29, the tournament will serve as a lead-up to the Open on December 3-9.
“There are plenty of birdie chances out there as well, so overall it should be a really entertaining week for the crowd at The Lakes in November,” Scott said.
“There’s also a lot of interest from guys on Tour wanting to come down and compete in Australia.”
