Tiger Woods time in the golfing wilderness is set to be extended after the former world No.1 withdrew from the 2023 US Open which will be played from June 15.

The champion golfer wasn't expected to take part in the tournament but its the seventh one he's missed since his last top-10 finish in 2010.

Over the last three years, Woods has only competed in five of a possible 12 major tournaments. He finished 47th in the 2022 Masters.

The US Golf Association announced Woods' withdrawal while revealing 33 newly exempt players which includes Australian Jason Day. These exemptions bring the number of fully exempt players to 84.
