UEFA approves steroid profiling
UEFA gave the go ahead Friday for a new steroid profiling system from the 2015-2016 season and approved an anti-doping program for Euro 2016.
European football's organising body said the steroid profiling system will apply for all UEFA competitions, and will help create biological passport profiles for players.
As part of its anti-doping program for Euro 2016 in France, UEFA plans extensive out-of-competition testing for all 24 teams before the start of the tournament.
In-competition testing will involve testing at all 51 matches, with more than 200 individual tests taking place. For all testing, blood, urine and serum samples will be taken for each tested player.
Samples will be analysed by a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory and samples will be stored long-term after the tournament.
The programs were approved by UEFA's medical committee meetin in Nyon, Switzerland.
A statement said biological passports help monitor players data over long periods and indirectly reveal the effects of doping.
The steroid profiling program "will boost the already strong deterrent effect of UEFA's testing program, as it will help better detect the effects of doping over time, thereby complementing existing direct anti-doping testing," it added.
