'You don't know soccer': USA promo mocks Matildas ahead of SheBelieves Cup match

The Matildas' horror run at the SheBelieves Cup has continued with a 2-1 defeat to the USA in enemy territory at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
But before the players had even taken to the field, the USA was already throwing barbs at the visitors.
In a US Women's National Team promo video that was broadcast before kick-off, it was revealed how America views the Matildas — with tongue in cheek (watch the bizarre promo in the player above).

The promo started by highlighting passionate Matildas players and supporters before launching into attack on Australia's identity as a football nation.
"Australia and soccer? No," the voiceover began.
"You guys don't know soccer. The US national team? Yeah, we're a bit of a big deal.
"Four World Cups. Five Olympic gold medals. And against the Matildas, well, when did you guys last beat us?"
Highlights of Australia's 1-0 victory over the USA at the Tournament of Nations in July 2017 then played to answer the question.
In 35 meetings, the Matildas have only beaten the USA on one occasion.

"It's been a minute. I mean, the US has history," the voiceover continued.
"You guys heard of Alex Morgan?
"Who are the Australian soccer equivalents? Oh, yeah, there's Mary [Fowler] at Manchester City."
Clips of Matildas forwards Fowler, Hayley Raso and Caitlin Foord then proved Australia's striking capabilities before the vision of Cortnee Vine's match-winning penalty during the Matildas' quarter-final win over France at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
"Wow, that's some firepower. You made the semifinals of the World Cup, really?," the voiceover said.
"I don't remember how the US went in that tourney. Round of 16? That doesn't sound right."
The promo's tone then shifted as America acknowledged Australia's place in the women's football landscape.
"OK, maybe you do you know soccer, a little bit," the voiceover said.
"Well let's see what you've got. Bring it on."
The Matildas succumbed to a new-look USA team for their second straight defeat at the SheBelieves Cup.
