Brisbane Roar keeper Jamie Young blast fan over racial abuse during game

Former Socceroos Archie Thompson and Mark Bosnich have called for a ban on a spectator ejected from an A-League game in Mudgee for reportedly racially abusing Brisbane goalkeeper Jamie Young.

The alleged incident occurred at Glen Willow Sports Stadium in the NSW country town, where Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane drew 2-2 on Saturday.

It is claimed that the fan called Young a "monkey". Young, who is of Sri Lankan and Scottish descent, furiously responded to the remark, which was reported to have been made by a Wanderers supporter.

Fairfax Media cited a Football Federation Australia spokesman who confirmed the incident would be investigated.

"There's no room for that in life full stop. He should be banned for 10 years," former goalkeeper Bosnich said on Fox Sports.

Ex-striker Thompson called for an even tougher punishment.

"I think not 10 years, life. We can't tolerate that sort of stuff," he said on the same program.
