What a difference a week makes.

Cruel 'choking' claims have been silenced by Arsenal who are now clear favourites to win the Premier League while also marching on to the Champions League final.

Everton did Arsenal a massive favour by holding Manchester City to a 3-3 draw. In tennis parlance, it was deuce before that match but now it is advantage Arsenal.

The Gunners now control their own destiny and after the midweek joy of beating Atletico Madrid it is back to business in a London derby against West Ham United on Monday (AEST).

Three points is a must against a Hammers side struggling in the relegation zone but desperate opponents can be tricky.

Manager Mikel Arteta has done a masterful job juggling Arsenal selections and player workloads and I am backing him to continue that through to the finish line.

City will be very disappointed with that Everton draw but Jeremy Doku at least snatched them a point with that terrific strike in added time. You just don't know - that point could end up making all the difference in the title race.

City played really well to be fair but the game turned on the unfortunate back pass from Marc Guehi, who has been playing so well.

Pep Guardiola's men are now five points behind Arsenal but have a game in hand as they prepare to host Brentford on Sunday (AEST).

Brentford are a really good team and in seventh place are firmly in the hunt for a Champions League berth. But you would still expect City to prevail at home which would keep that all important pressure on Arsenal, breathing down their neck.

Keith Andrews' men have been absolutely fantastic this season but Brentford haven't won at the Etihad since 2022.

If Brentford happened to cause an upset and Arsenal win, you'd have to say it's pretty much over. I'd love to see the race go down to the final day.

CAN CHELSEA STOP THEIR FREE FALL?

Australian fans are in for a treat on Saturday night with Liverpool hosting Chelsea and coverage on Stan Sport from 8.30pm AEST.

Chelsea have been in free fall and now sit ninth while Liverpool are hurting from their loss to Manchester United.

Chelsea will be cheering for Aston Villa in the Europa League final.

A Villa victory would mean six Premier League teams qualify for the Champions League rather than five.

So this match is really vital for Chelsea. Liverpool have been in decent form despite that setback at Old Trafford.

Arne Slot's squad is fourth on the ladder and knocking over Chelsea would all but lock up a Champions League spot.

PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS FLYING HIGH IN EUROPE

The Premier League powers-that-be will be thrilled to see English representation in all three European finals.

Arsenal will play Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League decider, Aston Villa will tackle Freiburg in the Europa League final and Crystal Palace meet Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League showpiece.

Congratulations to all of them. I'm a little bit biased but I was absolutely delighted to see Villa beat Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals.

This is their first major European final in 44 years and they haven't won a major trophy for 30 years - when yours truly was in goal at Wembley for a 3-0 League Cup final win over Leeds.

Goals from Savo Milosevic, Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke secured the victory in front of nearly 80,000 that day as Gareth Southgate helped me keep a clean sheet.

In the Champions League, I think a place in the final is just reward for Arsenal, who have been excellent in this competition for the last two seasons.

PSG got the better of them in last year's semi-finals and they will start favourites in Budapest on May 31 (AEST). Paris have been sensational but in a one-off game you never quite know.

If Arsenal have the Premier League title in their back pocket by then I think that will provide them with the confidence to go out there in a one-off game and give it a real shot.

The match-up of the managers is a great storyline. Luis Enrique and Mikel Arteta were once clubmates at Barcelona and had magnificent careers as players.

Villa's Unai Emery is yet another Spaniard at the top of his game as the country sets the pace for elite football coaching this season.

This will be Emery's sixth major European final. Only Italy's Giovanni Trapattoni, who coached in seven, has reached more. I'm getting nervous already thinking about the final because I really, really want to see them lift this trophy.

It's been too long for a club of Villa's size not to. It was nice to see Prince William cheering them on as well. He was young when I was playing but he is a genuinely passionate football fan.
