Aussie football great Mark Bosnich believes it will be an "extremely harsh" call by Tottenham if they are to part ways with Ange Postecoglou even if he is to win the Europa League.

The UK Telegraph reported overnight that Postecoglou will be sacked within weeks regardless of if he wins a trophy in Europe.

The report comes just a day after Spurs suffered a 2-1 Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest was the team's 18th loss for the season.

One more loss will equal the club's record for most in a Premier League season.

While Spurs are in no danger of being relegated, they sit 16th on the table amid a disastrous season.

Adding to the pressure on Postecoglou is his statement from early in the season, where he said he always wins a trophy in his second year in charge of a team.

The only piece of silverware still available to Tottenham is the Europa League.

The team face Bodo/Glimt in the semi finals of that competition, the first leg of which is next Friday.

"There's a lot of strong rumours going around that maybe Ange doesn't survive even if they go on to win the Europa League which I would find extremely harsh," Bosnich said on SEN radio.

"Sometimes the rumours are actually put out by the clubs themselves to give the manager and team are kick up the pants, which you can't rule out.

"It has been a poor season no doubt about that... 18 defeats for a team of Tottenham's stature is not good enough.

"But I will say to all Spurs fans... forget about the (Premier) League right now. You're not going to get relegated."

Many have draw comparison between Postecoglou and former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who was axed just four months after he lead the Old Trafford locals to victory in the FA Cup.

Yet still, the ability for a manager like ten Hag to lead a team to a title remains a promising sign for all potential clubs he could join forces with in the future.

"People will say look at Erik ten Hag he won an FA Cup, they kept him on and sacked him four months later. It's all still in his favour going forward because he won that competition," said Bosnich.

"When you've got this focus that is purely on the Europa League - if any of Manchester United, Boda/Glimt, Athletic Club or Spurs win, they are in the Champions League and that is big biccies for any club.

"Your focus naturally is on that.  It will make a bit of a difference prize money wise.

"In terms of Ange, if he's going to go down, he's going to go down fighting," he continued.

"Which means go and win the trophy, put the ball in the club's court... because regardless of what everyone is saying it will still be a huge call.

"I can understand the hurt and disappointment but they've just got to stick with it until the end of the season."

Many thought Postecoglou would be sacked following last week's Europa League tie against Eintracht Frankfurt, but Spurs won and Postecoglou lived to fight another day.

He joked after that game, "You're going to have to put up with me for a little bit longer".

Postecoglou has been combative when pressed by journalists about his potential sacking.

"I don't define my career and me as a person by what people think about me," he said in a press conference last week as rumours of his sacking swirled.

"I never have. Never will. If you don't think I'm a good coach today, you won't think I'm a good coach tomorrow, even if we win.

"One game ain't going to make a difference to that. You either think I'm capable of doing the job now or you don't.

"That's where I sit with these things. If people think that us winning tomorrow all of a sudden makes me a better manager than what I am today or us losing tomorrow somehow makes me a worse manager, I guess that's their burden, not mine.

"What I'm sitting here doing is thinking we've got a great opportunity to get to the final four of a major tournament. I'm not going to let that slip by without fighting tooth and nail for it irrespective of what may come the day after."

The question for Aussie football fans now is where Postecoglou might land when he is inevitably shown the door by Tottenham.
