Brazil stun Matildas with second-half comeback to force 2-2 draw

The Matildas have played out a 2-2 draw at CommBank Stadium after Brazil pulled off a stunning second-half comeback.

Tonight's draw puts an end to the Matildas' six-game winning streak against the No.7 ranked nation, who were out to avenge their 3-1 loss to Australia last weekend.

Leading 2-0 after the 53rd-minute, courtesy of goals to Clare Polkinghorne and Sam Kerr, Australia's big lead quickly disappeared.

Erika hit back for Brazil in the 64th minute before Debinha was gifted the perfect opportunity to equalise only seven minutes later.

After a stunning save by Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams, the ball quickly deflected and landed straight at the feet of Debinha who, along with the ball, crashed into the net.

The result for Matildas boss Tony Gustavsson means he's still yet to taste back-to-back wins since taking over in September last year.

Meanwhile, Kerr tonight notched her 49th goal for the Matildas.

Kerr is now one goal away from equalling Tim Cahill's record of 50 goals for national team duties.

Just like that, scores are locked at 2-2.

This time it's Debinha, who pounces on the deflection to make it two goals in seven minutes for Brazil.

Incredible comeback.

Debinha's goal resulted in a nasty collision with Matildas goalkeeper, Lydia Williams but all was fine in the end with neither player forced to come off.

The Matildas' six-game winning streak against No.7 ranked Brazil is now at risk of coming to an end.

Plenty of time remaining and now it's game one!

Sam Kerr notches her 49th goal for her country as the Matildas go up 2-0.

A lovely piece of build-up and Kerr guides it into the bottom corner.

Kerr is now one goal away from equalling Tim Cahill's record of 50 goals for national team duties.

After 45 minutes, it's the Matildas on top 1-0.

But after Brazil conceded in the 10th-minute, they turned things around.

They owned possession at 54 per cent and took 14 shots compared to just six from the Matildas.

"The Matildas haven't got a lot of hooks to hang their hats up in terms of positives," said Andy Harper.

"They can't hold the ball... they're struggling to hold the tempo."

Just over 30 minutes have gone by and the Matildas still lead 1-0 after Clare Polkinghorne's goal.

While it wasn't the start Brazil was hoping for, they've since looked the better side.

Following the goal in the 10th-minute, it's been all Brazil since.

Brazil has nearly doubled Australia in shots with nine compared to five. Possession is also at 53 per cent in their favour.

Australia's corner takes a big deflection before it floats up for Clare Polkinghorne, who on the volley puts it away in the back corner.

A stunning finish for the defender

"She's repeated... extraordinary," said Simon Hill in commentary.

"She's a central defender remember... just stick her up front. That was a quality finish."

Polkinghorne makes it two goals in as many games for the Matildas after she scored the opener against Brazil last weekend.

Overall a brilliant start for the Matildas following their 3-1 win on Saturday.

Ellie Carpenter puts in a stunning cross into the box, but the Matildas can't convert.

Carpenter's cross lands at the feet of Caitlin Foord, but her shot goes over the bar and it's a missed opportunity for the Matildas.

"Maybe a touch of rustiness from Caitlin Foord," said Simon Hill in commentary.

Five minutes in and so far it's Brazil looking most likely.

The opening few minutes have been controlled by Brazil, who have owned 60 per cent of possession and have already tested Australia's defence by putting in a cross into the box.

Both nations are making their way out to the CommBank Stadium field.
