Massive boost in World Cup prizemoney

Australia and the rest of the countries competing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will compete for prizemoney which has jumped 12 per cent from the last edition in Brazil.

The winners of the quadrennial event, which begins on June 14, will receive $US38 million ($A50 million).

FIFA prize money for the 2018 World Cup:

Winner - $US38 million ($A50 million)

Runner-up - $US28 million ($A36.5 million)

Third - $US24 million ($A31.5 million)

Fourth - $US22 million ($A29 million)

Places 5-8 (quarter-finals) - $US16 million ($A21 million each)

Places 9-16 (round of 16) - $US12 million ($A15.5 million each)

Places 17-32 (group stage) - $US8 million ($A10.5 million each).
