A forecast heatwave has forced the postponement of a W-League curtain raiser to the Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United A-League clash on Sunday.

The men's game at Newcastle's McDonald Jones Stadium is also subject to a delayed kick-off under Football Federation Australia's heat policy.

It will now kick-off at 7.30pm (AEDT), 30 minutes later than originally scheduled.

The women's match was meant to start at 4.30pm but will now be played on Monday at 9.30am either at McDonald Jones Stadium or the No.2 Sportsground.

FFA Head of Leagues Greg O'Rourke said that the proactive decision was made on Friday with player, match official and fan welfare in mind.

"Based on the weather information we believe that it was the interests of all stakeholders that these decisions to postpone and delay kick-offs," he said.
