German teams' mixed Champs League success
Bayern Munich may top Champions League Group F going into their match at Arsenal on Tuesday but after two games their Bundesliga colleagues Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Borussia Moenchengladbach are all under pressure.
Bayer Leverkusen host Roma in Group E on Tuesday knowing defeat will see them drop out of the qualification spots while on Wednesday bottom club Gladbach attempt to earn their first Group D points at Juventus.
On the same day Wolfsburg welcome PSV Eindhoven in an incredibly tight Group B which has both sides, in addition to Manchester United and CSKA Moscow, on three points.
United manager Louis van Gaal says he is unlikely to make too many changes for his side's trip to CSKA, meaning Wayne Rooney should again lead the attack.
Gladbach go to Juventus with morale high after four consecutive domestic wins despite their Euro troubles.
Juve have won both games so far despite domestic struggles but could miss goalkeeping captain Gianluigi Buffon after he was injured in Sunday's Serie A draw at Inter Milan.
In the other group game, Sevilla visit in-form Manchester City with Unai Emery's team joint-second with City, both three points behind Juventus.
Emery is sweating on the fitness of Adil Rami and Ever Banega while City have a host of injury problems with Samir Nasri joining David Silva and Sergio Aguero on the sidelines.
Leverkusen meanwhile look to build on a respectable narrow loss in Barcelona last time and the match with bottom club Roma is particularly special for sporting director Rudi Voeller.
Roma would leap Leverkusen into second place with victory assuming Barcelona win in Belarus against BATE Borisov.
Leading the Barca attack, in the absence of Lionel Messi, will be Neymar, who banged in four goals against Rayo Vallecano Saturday. The Brazilian striker has still not scored in the Champions League this season.
Bayern have won both their games and now visit bottom side Arsenal who have two losses to their name. The Germans left for England on Sunday in a bid to beat the London traffic.
"Due to the traffic situation in London, a trip from the Saebener Strasse to our hotel would take five to six hours. That would be a lot of time in buses and the plane on the day before the match," coach Pep Guardiola said.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger vowed to attack in search of the first points of the campaign.
"The confidence is there, the required result is there and we know exactly what is needed," he said.
"Even a 0-0 draw is not good enough, so to score goals we will have to attack."
