A pair of football player have given a new meaning to the sporting term ‘all tied up’ in a bizarre moment in a US college match.

The dominant Florida Gators were looking to heap more misery on rivals Alabama when they were awarded a penalty at the start of the second-half at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

Gators attacker Kit Loferski slid through the defence and broke into the penalty box only to be brought crashing down what looked to be a crunching tackle.

But on second inspection, Loferski had her run ended by the strangest of tackling techniques.

Sliding into stop the attack, the defender’s laces became entangled with Loferski’s and brought her down.

Despite the bizarreness of the moment, the referee had no option but to blow for a penalty which was duly converted by Dougherty Howard.

The Gators eventually ran out 6-0 winners but it’s likely this game will be remembered for the arrival of the laces-and-all tackle.
