Aussie whiz kid to inspire a ‘new generation’ of Hull fans as debut looms
Craig Foster has backed Lucas Herrington to inspire a “new generation” of Hull City fans this season as he prepares to make his mark in the Premier League.
Hull kick-starts its campaign against Manchester United tonight with Herrington a chance of starting at centre-back.

Herrington’s manager Sergej Jakirovic has been tight-lipped on whether 18-year-old will play against the Red Devils but with Charlie Hughes injured that leaves a gap for him.
Speaking on Nine’s Today, Foster backed Herrington to stand up on the biggest stage.
“I think he’ll go fantastic. He’s an amazing player. He’s one of the best young talents we’ve produced in a very, very long time, as a central defender,” he said.
“You saw him in the World Cup, right, he played in the third game of the group, and then also in the round of 32, just an incredible footballer. He comes in, steps up a big level, he’s been in the MLS, he played here with Brisbane Roar, so it’s fantastic to see that our young players are going (places). You can see this new generation really coming through.
“So there’s going to be a whole bunch of Aussies watching Hull. A new generation of fans for Hull City here in Australia. I’ll be watching every kick that he has.”
Foster admitted it will be “difficult” for Hull in the step up from the Championship to the top tier.
Jakirovic has said previously that Sunderland is his “guiding principle” to staying up in the top fight after the Black Cats finished an astonishing seventh following promotion.
“The club recognised cheaper, but very good players, mainly in Belgium and France,” he told Sportske Novosti.
“We will need 12 to 15 (new players). To get 120 million pounds for transfers (like Sunderland reportedly spent), that’s a dream. I don’t believe we will have that much money available, but we’ll see.”
