'How on Earth?': Harry Kane's dazzling milestone strike as Mohamed Salah then joins him in the 50-goal club

Harry Kane scored his 50th Champions League goal on Thursday (AEDT) and he made sure it was a spectacular one.

The Bayern Munich striker tormented Atalanta's defence by somehow turning and creating space with superb close control before unleashing an unstoppable shot with his right foot.

"Not a lot of space to work with here, but he's done so well, it's exceptional," commentator Robyn Cowen said on Stan Sport.

"Incredible from Kane. How on Earth did he work the space for that? And find that finish. It is world class. Harry Kane's 50th Champions League goal. And it is a special one."

It was Kane's second goal of the night after he had already struck from the penalty spot.

The England captain has now scored 20 goals in 18 home Champions League matches since moving from Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane is the first English player to score 50 Champions League goals.

Bayern won the round of 16, second leg clash 4-1.

That gave them a crushing 10-2 aggregate win as they cruised to the quarter-finals, where they will meet Real Madrid.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah also scored his 50th Champions League goal in a 4-0 home win over Galatasaray.

The Egyptian became the first African player to hit that mark as Liverpool advanced to the quarter-finals 4-1 on aggregate.

It had been a season to forget for Salah.

He got a first half penalty so wrong that it was hard to tell if he was trying an audacious 'Panenka' chip or if it was simply a horrible mis-kick.

Either way, it was an embarrassing moment just before halftime and all too typical of a campaign in which Salah's powers appear to have diminished.

That all changed after the break when he was at the heart of a Liverpool goal spree that set up a tantalising showdown with defending champion Paris Saint-Germain.

With Liverpool leading 1-0 at halftime through Dominik Szoboszlai's goal, Salah crossed for Hugo Ekitike to double the advantage.

Two minutes later, his fierce shot was saved by Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and Ryan Gravenberch was there to turn in Liverpool's third on the rebound.

Then came the moment Salah - and the Anfield crowd was waiting for - cutting in from the right, he curled a left-footed shot into the far corner from just outside the box.

The home fans erupted - chanting their hero's name. He was given a standing ovation when he went off in the second half.

Liverpool and Arsenal were the only two Premier League clubs to advance.

Tottenham beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at home to deliver Igor Tudor his first win as manager.

But Atletico still advanced 7-5 on aggregate.

Newcastle United were hammered 7-2 by Barcelona who took a 8-3 aggregate win.

Manchester City and Chelsea bowed out on Wednesday (AEDT).
