Fan gatecrashes World Darts championship final

The final of the World Darts Championships was interrupted when a fan rushed the stage and snatched the winner’s trophy.

Michael van Gerwen was on his way to victory against Gary Anderson with the Dutchman needing a crucial throw to collect over $500,000 in prize money.

As van Gerwen approached the oche, a fan suddenly ran onto the stage and grabbed the winner’s trophy.

The pest then proceeded to raise the silverware above his head as startled security guards rush to remove him.

Luckily, staff from the venue aided security in retrieving the trophy and it was returned to the stage.

Unfortunately, the incident had an impact on the Dutch dart chucker’s concentration and he went on to lose the leg and the set.

But van Gerwen eventually regained his composure take the win.

"I think during the game I was in full concentration and it was a bad moment for me,’’ he said.

"You've always got people like that trying to be funny.

"Maybe he wanted to give me the trophy. That's very nice of him but he's not allowed to do that!"
