Dutch down Aussies 7-2 in baseball

Australia's baseball team has gone down 7-2 to The Netherlands, ending their unbeaten streak in the Honkbalweek Haarlem tournament.

The Dutch used a five-run third inning to clinch victory on Wednesday night [Thursday AEST].

The Netherlands got on top early, but a solo home run from former Major League baseballer Trent Oeltjen got Australia into the game before the Dutch unloaded in the third.

Despite the loss Australia manager Jon Deeble insisted he is happy with where his side are at after wins over Curacao 8-4, world No.3 Taiwan 9-5 and No.1 Japan 4-3.

"We've put ourselves in a great position with three wins so far," Deeble said.

"Our bullpen is fresh and we've aligned our pitchers up well, we have no fear going into tomorrow's (qualifying) final."

Australia will play The Netherlands again in their next match.
